[SPAM?] preserve Bayfront Park

Dear MP City Council,
I have been for many years a resident of Menlo Park, and I'm unable to
attend the Oct. 19 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting to hear the
presentation of the plan to modify Bayfront Park to include, as I understand
it, a golf course. We need to preserve this unique resource as a natural
wetland and not modify it with a sports field/golf course, etc. Surely
there are other places where golfers can play. I can't imagine that
whatever income the city might gain from such a facility would outweigh the
environmental loss.

We need to preserve this wonderful habitat and trails so that future
generations (of humans and birds and other wildlife) can enjoy the natural
setting. We do not need to develop the area!!

I suppose some would argue that a sports field or golf course is close to
nature because it's a green space, but there is no comparison. We don't
need added parking impact, pro shops, snack bars, etc. etc. Let's keep our
bit of nature with low impact walking and viewing areas for the creatures
and natural plants that remind us that we share the planet and that an
important recreation is the relative quiet of this wonderful space. The
eager golfers could still carry their bags and enjoy the fresh air, and
instead of putters, 9 irons and other clubs, put in binoculars, bird and
plant guides, a camera, etc. to look for birds instead or golf balls, and
have a great stroll.

How about developing some abandoned industrial area for a bit of green space
for a modest sporting field or two, with affordable (I mean to the average
working stiff affordable) homes and apartments...let's say where Anderson
Chevrolet is. I doubt that it would have a huge negative impact on current
or projected traffic patterns...public transit is excellent on El Camino and
with the train nearby. I'm sure these new city residents would shop locally
and support the schools.

Whatever the plan is, it should be discussed at a full, public meeting of
the city council, with full public outreach, and a full review of the plan's
environmental impact.

Sincerely,

Judy Adams
