Menlo Park City Council,
I have been a resident of Menlo Park since 1967 and appreciate the
opportunity to express my support of the planned residential development
at 110/175 Linfield Drive in the Linfield Oaks neighborhood. As a
resident of Menlo Park I am certainly concerned about the impacts that
new development can have, however, it is very clear to me that we have
done little in recent years, to offer new, quality housing opportunities
in our City. Menlo Park is a great place to live, and I want it to
retain its charm and character, but in order to maintain the vitality of
our City, we must have some controlled, intelligent development. The
lack of new housing is creating a situation in which the only choices
available to families wishing to live here are older, more expensive
houses. Closing the doors to our City for intelligent residential
development is shortsighted, and that sort of NIMBY mentality cannot be
our City's position. Escalating home prices have made buying a home in
our community very difficult for most families. To maintain the vibrancy
in Menlo Park, it is incumbent on the City Council to allow new
development so that new families have the opportunity to call Menlo Park
home.
We must provide new housing opportunities in our City, and it seems to
me that this area, surrounded by apartment buildings is well suited for
residential development. The quality of these houses and this plan is
in keeping with the overall character of the neighborhood. These homes
will increase neighboring property values, bring increased tax revenue
to the City and eliminate aging office buildings that are difficult to
lease based on current market conditions.
All development brings impacts with it, but the impacts of this
development can be well mitigated. With the lack of affordable new
housing opportunities in our City plus the quality of this development
plan and location, I strongly support allowing the proposed project to
move forward.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Erik Doyle.
