Dear Officers of the City Council,
I am a resident of The Willows and just returned to town. I just was made aware of the armed
robbery that occured again this past Saturday night at La Hacienda market just two blocks from our
home. I cannot emphasize how strongly this issue concerns my family and my neighbors.
We frequent La Hacienda regularly with my toddler; it is a wonderful neighborhood market - clean,
polite staff, good food, culturally diverse, reasonably priced, and convenient. It has now been
robbed several times. Five men with handguns on a crime spree two blocks from my home represents a
definite threat to safety .
We've put men on the moon and delineated the human genome - I'm no crime expert, but I imagine
there are some effective deterrent and preventative measures that could easily be employed. Are
there not video cameras, an alarm system, an automatic means by which to directly alert the
police, security guards, increased police surveillance with both marked and unmarked officers
(especially at night near closing) available?
Please advise as to what is being done to address this recurring crime issue. Is there anything
that we as neighbors should be doing (besides staying away after dusk)?
I know there are many issues on your plate. Please give this one some thought.
Thank you for your consideration,
Respectfully,
Steve Lipman
