Dear Steve and Brielle:
I have been asked by the Mayor to respond to your recent e-mail to City
Council regarding the downtown parking study. Your e-mail discusses a
December 15, 2004 article in The Almanac regarding the study.
Please read the article more carefully. It states that for a three level,
395 stall garage, the estimated cost is, "$34,340 per net new stall." The
numbers in your e-mail incorrectly assume this is the cost per stall. The
number published in the article is also slightly off. The estimated cost
should have been $38,340 per net new stall. For this alternative, the total
cost is estimated to be $7.0 million. The cost per stall is estimated to be
$17,763.
I would also like to note that the numbers above are for one of the options
studied. A wide range of options has been looked at with a range of costs.
No specific option has been selected or recommended at this point.
Please feel free to call me with any additional questions about the downtown
parking study at 330-6781.
Thank You
Kent Steffens
