Chilco ballast material removal

From: Murphy, Seamus <"Murphy,>
Date: Sat, 4 Apr 2015 00:19:47 +0000

In response to community concerns, Caltrain will immediately begin removing ballast rock material currently stored at the Chilco site near the Belle Haven neighborhood in Menlo Park. Existing material will be completely removed no later than October 1, which is 1.5 years earlier than previous estimates.

At the March 23 community meeting, Caltrain pledged to provide the community with a date certain for when the material would be removed. We are following up on that now, but there are still many, many details that need to be resolved.

Removal of the material in this expedited time frame will require additional costs. A full cost assessment and resources necessary to follow through with this commitment have not yet been identified.

While Caltrain is still working to develop funding solutions to cover these immediate expenses, we understand the community's urgent desire to remove the material from the site and we want to assure you that we are fully committed to responding in the most expeditious way.

We look forward to providing more information soon. In the meantime, please feel free to share this information with others who may be interested, and please contact me directly if you have any questions.

Many thanks,
Seamus Murphy
Director, Government and Community Affairs
Caltrain
