The Joint Venture board of directors elected San Jose mayor Sam Liccardo as its new co-chair and added three new members at its quarterly meeting in
Santa Clara on March 20.

representative in the co-chair role. The private sector co-chair is Steven Bochner, CEO of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
At the same meeting, the board elected three new members: Nuria Fernandez, general manager and CEO of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority;
Todd Harris, EVP, CFO and CAO of Tech CU (Technology Credit Union); and Davis White, public policy and government relations manager at Google.

Our APRIL Spotlight

RICHARD MORAN

Menlo College

Menlo College president Richard Moran was just a 20-year-old sophomore at Rutgers College when he decided what he wanted to be: a college president.
“I went out and bought a book on it,” he says. “I loved everything about college. I kept going until I got a Ph.D. so I wouldn’t have to
leave.”
It only took him 43 years to land his dream job last September, but there were vital stops along the way as a CEO, venture capitalist, board chair and
consultant.

Article of the Month
“Off Deadline — Stanford's John Hennessy takes a peek at Stanford's, and the world's, future”
Palo Alto Weekly

In this recent guest column, former Palo Alto Weekly editor Jay Thorwaldson delves into Stanford President John Hennessy’s “fireside chat”-style
conversation at this year’s Joint Venture’s State of the Valley conference.

“His core message was that Stanford is deeply rooted in the community, the Silicon Valley region, the nation and the world, and that Stanford and
other universities must play a role in the well-being of all of those layers of civilization and the environment,” writes Thorwaldson.
