Ravenswood - Alma intersection (RR crossing)

Dear Council.

I have been a concerned citizen since moving to Menlo Park in 1990. I
appreciate the hard work you and City staff do in order to provide for our
quality of life. I know better than to write to the entire Council in a
single e-mail, but this is an important safety concern to me.

A current issue you face is the intersection of Ravenswood and Alma (the
rail crossing). I would like to reprise a suggestion I made during the
master plan process for Burgess Park, and recommend Council consider closing
Alma Street at the Library corner. I know you will face some opposition from
the Linfield neighborhood, but this is important enough that I believe they
will understand the need for improved safety measures. Simple bollards or
temporary landscaping to block turns onto Alma would eliminate many of the
problems at that crosswalk. Closing Alma could allow for additional parking
or outdoor space near the Library and Gym. A trial period of six months
would allow residents an opportunity to see if they approve of a permanent
closure.

Please consider this option in dealing with the current safety issues at
that intersection.

Thank you.

Best Regards,
