Office Cap: Thank you!

Council Members:

I'm grateful that you all voted for the office cap - in the face of the
self-interest of big corporations, developers and realtors. They only care
about the money. Their promises of mitigation are mostly wishful thinking.

Yes, we need money for maintaining our cities, but too much money is
destroying what we value. The highest use of capital is not to make more
money, but to make money do more for the betterment of life.(Henry Ford)

I was disturbed to read the ideas promoted by one of the PTC commissioners

"Commissioner Michael Alcheck, who argued that the project shouldn't have to
be beneficial in itself, as long as the developer pays the right price,
either in terms of cash or other amenities. .

"We're not just the epicenter of disruption in technology," Alcheck said.
"We want to welcome, maybe, disruptive concepts in land use."

Disruption adds drama to companies like Lyft, Uber, Airbnb when they pitch
the VCs. But disruption is not what we need in our daily lives.

Finally, I urge you to consider water in every application for new
development. I never hear it mentioned, and it cannot be ignored.

Thank you,

                Pat Marriott
