My opinion re the City Manager

Dear City Council,
My name is Judy Melvin and I have lived in LO since 1960. Throughout the years I've seen a lot, I've heard a lot and been through a lot... usually minding my own business. This time I can't help myself. I feel as if I must speak out.

The City Manager's contract is currently up for renewal and this is the time to find a better candidate to serve the residents of the city. I understand that the Council would like some feedback concerning Mr. McIntyre's performance of his duties. In my opinion Alex McIntyre has not done an adequate job enabling him to keep this position. He has instead made some very unethical and irresponsible decisions that have been an embarrassment to the city. He has not shown to be a good leader and has not provided good service to the residents. In 2011, Mr. McIntyre chose to discuss a very sensitive police matter in public and was overheard by a local news reporter. The city manager reportedly said that it would take a million-dollar check to get rid of Vasquez. The city manager decided that it would be too expensive to remove the officer for his obvious misdeeds and instead kept him on the force. There have been multiple over-priced retreats to Half Moon Bay where McIntyre took his executive staff on vacation. He ordered E-mails deleted from the public record concerning a fired Gymnastics teacher. Glen Kramer, Personnel director, was rehired as a consultant after retiring and collecting his pension, allowing him to continue getting a city paycheck. Sounds like double-dipping. Additionally, he hired Malcolm Smith to help defeat citizen's initiative Measure M. Now is the time to bring in a City Manager who will act in a professional manner and serve the people. In my opinion, City Manager McIntyre receives a failing grade.
