Sidewalks on Santa Cruz Ave.

Sent from my iPad. Dear councilmembers. I wanted to lend my thoughts regarding the proposal for sidewalks on Santa Cruz Ave. I have lived in Menlo Park for over 35 years and am now retired. I frequently walk from my house on San Mateo Dr. to downtown. I think adding
sidewalks is a good idea but I think that you should consider several alternatives because the issue of adding sidewalks is slightly more complex than it seems. Specifically, the proposal to ban parking on Santa Cruz raises some issues: both the Presbyterian Church and the St. Rayrmond's Catholic Church require street parking for their parishioners. As I understand it street parking would be removed/banned and if so, where will the parishioners park to go to their church. Also as one walks down Santa Cruz Ave. during the workday one notes that many of the downtown workers/employees of stores park on Santa Cruz Ave. west of downtown. Where are these people going to park if you eliminate parking on Santa Cruz Ave. Also, where will people park when they come to Menlo Park for the annual Summerfest.

On another issue please do not eliminate the left-hand turn lane which runs down the middle of Santa Cruz Ave. Eliminating the lane would cause tremendous traffic jams during the rush hour and would be a set up for numerous rear end accidents.

Thank you for your consideration.
