Santa Cruz Avenue sidewalks

Members of the City Council:

In considering the issue of sidewalks on Santa Cruz Avenue, I concluded that
the following three principles would determine my personal choice.

First and foremost, as a matter of principle, I believe it is important that
the City reclaim for public use any of the public right of way that has been
encroached by private parties. This criterion would narrow the field to
options 2, 3, 4 and 7.

Second, for aesthetics and for fairness to residents of the two sides of the
street, the treatment should be symmetrical - i.e. the same on both sides.
This principle also favors options 2, 3, 4 and 7.

Third, planting strips on both sides would enable the possibility of an
aesthetically uniform tree-lined boulevard approaching the City Center from
the west. This principle narrows the field to option 4.

Please consider these principles when making your decision.

Thanks for your attention,

Eric Doyle
