Caltrain electrification

Dear council members.

I do not support the current HSR initiative, but I DO support Caltrain electrification.

Most modern cities in Europe and Asia run electrified rail. The fact that Caltrain is still moving people in converted freight cars on a freight gauge rail is ridiculous. The ride is bumpy and uncomfortable, the trains are slower to speed up and slow down, louder, and the diesel electric motors are a top polluter. I heard that all non-peak caltrains put out more CO2 per rider than if every passenger drove a Hummer solo to work.

Electrification is a net gain for the environment and I don't mind the electric wires - looks more modern than riding a "freight train".

I do not like the idea of helping HSR in any way, but if we end up there I would want to make sure we get electrification at least.

Please vote to NOT join the lawsuit against electrification of Caltrain. Please show that Menlo park is a modern and forward looking city.

We can support electrification and still fight against HSR until they come up with a proposal that makes sense.

my 2 cents.
