RE: Overnight parking

David--This is something that should have been disclosed to you at the time you rented the house. MP has had its overnight parking prohibition on the books for over 50 years. It is one of the things that people in MP like about the City and why some people purchase homes in MP rather than PA or other surrounding cities -- there are no cars parked on residential streets all day and all night long as a result of the ordinance. It forces people to use their garages and/or park in driveways and maintains the aesthetics of residential neighborhoods. This policy has been brought up in the past and reexamined and every time it is brought up, if there is any consideration of repealing the ordinance, there has been strong public reaction from property owners opposing any change or repeal--resulting in the ordinance staying on the books. Subject: Overnight parking

Six renters live in our house and we have six cars, but only five spaces to park in the driveway. Since we can't get a parking permit we have to park one car in Palo Alto and walk back. We get complaints from the residents in Palo Alto whose houses we park in front of. Two of my housemates are girls who find it intimidating walking back from their car late at night. It seems ridiculous that we can't just park in front of our own house!

Yours sincerely,

David Knowles,
