Mr. Fisher

Thank you for your email. I would be happy to discuss any substantive concerns that you have with the Comparative Economic Advantage Study (CEAS).

Tonight’s Council Meeting is actually the 5th public meeting where the CEAS is on the agenda. The City Council held a Study Session on December 16th to review the CEAS and discuss the Economic Development Plan Goals. The Goals are a result of public input collected in two public Stakeholder meetings that were held on November 19th and December 9th. In addition, Staff presented information to the Planning Commission on the Economic Development Plan as well as the CEAS on December 8th. Below I have provided a link to the Office of Economic Development (OED) website, where you can find all of the background documentation on this effort as well as sign up to receive the Quarterly OED Newsletter, which has provided information and links to the CEAS and other background documents as recently as the Q4 2014 Edition.

December 16th City Council Meeting: Item SS1

Tonight the City Council will be taking action on the Economic Development Goals. Your input is of course valuable and welcome. Again, please feel free to contact me directly with any suggestions as we move forward.

Thank you for your input and assistance as we all seek to ensure that Menlo Park is well-positioned to take full advantage of economic opportunities to further enhance this wonderful community.

Sincerely,

Jim Cogan
Economic Development Manager

Subject: Suggested removal of Item D7 from consent calendar in Tuesday January 27, 2015 agenda.

Item D7, approval of Economic Development Plan Goals and attached staff Report #15-019, and particularly Attachment B, an experts analysis of Menlo Park' comparative economic advantage to adjacent city's on the peninsula, s contain significant interesting and inconsistent information and recommendations regarding neighborhoods, retail, office space, walkability, and environmental concerns. This information should be thoroughly discussed and reviewed by Council. That discussion and review may be council's most important job at this time. A rubber stamp to staff by acceptance on the consent calendar is insufficient review and approval.
