You inspire her to rise above!

Every morning, Kendra gives herself a silent pep talk as the doors of the public bus creak open. She climbs the steps, juggling her backpack and diaper bag as she holds her son, Jayden, closer to her chest.

At just eight months old, Jayden is a tiny, perfect little baby with green eyes that follow every bird or rolling ball. He takes in the other passengers as his Mom inches down the narrow bus aisle and slides into an empty seat near the back. “Hey baby, baby, baby,” Kendra hums, pulling out a bag of cheerios while bouncing Jayden on her lap. She ignores the stares, the whispers and nudges shared between friends, the silent judgments. At just 15 years old she has learned to rise above; for her son, she is strong.

When she steps onto campus, she lets out a breath she never knew she was holding. The bus ride is all but forgotten as she shoulders open the door of Redwood Child Development Center and is greeted by a chorus of voices; friends, teachers, familiar faces that break into smiles as they call out her name. She is Kendra, a tireless player of peek-a-boo, exceptional math student, loving daughter, and dedicated mother. For the next few years, she will bravely face the bus ride to bring her son to the classroom where opportunity awaits.

Your donation to Peninsula Family Service this holiday season fuels the determination of teen parents like Kendra who find hope in the powerful programs you fund. By supporting our Redwood CDC, you help Kendra graduate high school, attend college, and provide Jayden with the early experiences he needs to realize his full potential.
