I support the Initiative Measure for ECR/Downtown Plan

Dear City Council,
I support the "Initiative Measure Proposing Amendments to the City of Menlo Park El Camino Real/Downtown Specific Plan Limiting Office Development, Modifying Open Space Requirements, and Requiring Voter Approval for New Non-Residential Projects that Exceed Specified Development Limits", which is before the City Council on Tuesday, July 15.

Also, I read with interest the report from Lisa Wise Consulting regarding the potential impacts of the initiative. This report does much to convince me of the appropriateness of the initiative, because the impacts according to the report will be to slow development down and limit office space, while not stopping development completely.

The overall architecture of the 5OO EL Camino Real Project shows little imagination and lacks innovation. Compare those buildings to what the people at Facebook or the Gateway project are doing. Thought and care are being put into those projects, but I did not see the same care going into the largest of the downtown projects. So I think the initiative is right on slow the developers down, send them back to the drawing board. There is limited space and it should be used wisely, the El Camino Real/Downtown Specific Plan was meant to improve Menlo Park, not just make 1970s style developments easy.

I hope the Council will adopt an ordinance approving the initiative.

Thank you,
