Re: 100 year flood resolution

Dear Ms. Katz,

Thank you for writing to express your concern with floodwalls upstream (west) of Highway 101. Please know that I share your concern. When this issue was raised previously, I expressed my belief that floodwalls would have severe negative impacts to our neighborhood and that they are a non-starter.

Please also know that tonight<x-apple-data-detectors://0> the Menlo Park City Council is NOT considering action related to floodwalls or any other potential work UPSTREAM of Highway 101.

Tonight<x-apple-data-detectors://1>, the only action we are considering is whether to authorize the City Manager to sign an agreement that enables the construction of a project on the creek between the Bay and Highway 101 separating Palo Alto and East Palo Alto. There are planned floodwalls for this Bay-Highway 101 portion that has seen repeated flooding, and this issue has been extensively discussed and agreed to by those cities.

Again, thank you for your email. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Dear City Council,

As a long time resident of the Willows with property within a block of Woodland, I am asking you to remove "and flood walls" as an option in the resolution for 100 year flood upgrades to the creek. Flood walls would completely change the character of Woodland, one of the prettiest streets in Menlo Park, as well as the Willows in general. There must be a solution that does not include paving over one of the last natural creeks in the area, destroying natural habitat, and negatively affecting the neighborhoods surrounding the creek.
