A Well for Sharon Heights Golf Course

Dear City Council Members,

I live next to Nealon Park with a very nice gate into the park. My granddaughters made a sign for the gate which is overarched with honeysuckle and has a fantasy like quality. The sign says: "Secret Garden" and it leads into our public garden--which brings pleasure to people of all ages. It is no secret because it is preserved and maintained for our community and its recreational uses.

I do not want our city to embrace the plan of a private organization, the Sharon Heights Golf Club, to build a well there or in any other park. The club is an exclusive, private organization for a small number of people. Not many residents of Menlo Park even belong to it considering our population size.

In addition, we have a serious water issue in this area and state, and we need a comprehensive plan in Menlo Park and the region to address water issues over a long term. The needs of a golf club are not central to these larger water issues.

However, I would be in favor of the idea of the West Bay Water District finding a way to recycle water through a water treatment facility up in Sharon Heights. I recognize that in the future 18 hole golf clubs may go the way of the dinosaurs, but those clubs that want to continue must find a solution which does not impede on public space and streets.

Sincerely, Lynore Banchoff
