City's Water Policy, study session June 3, 2014: Water is a public resource

From: domainremoved <Roxanne>
Date: Mon, 2 Jun 2014 21:49:19 -0700

Dear Council Members,

The water under our public land is a public resource, in this century water rights are likely to become as valuable, if not more so, than any mineral rights. Giving permanent and free access of this resources to the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club is nothing less than allowing the theft of a public resource by a few wealthy and foolish people who are living the wrong century.

We are appalled that city staff would pursue such an outrageous plan, but bureaucratic shenanigans have astounded better minds than ours. It is up to you, our elected City Council, to tell the staff to stop negotiations with Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club regarding potential irrigation wells using city water sources, be on any city property or park. What ever nutty bureaucrat has determined this matter so far, will of course be nameless. In the end it is you, the City Council, who will be responsible and remembered for what you do. Most of us only get to save the planet one plastic bag at a time, but you are in a position to do more. Please use the June 3rd City Council meeting to stand up for the people of Menlo Park and the rest of the planet.

We also ask that you consider and support the "RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SUSTAINABLE GROUNDWATER MANAGEMENT IN THE SAN FRANCISQUITO CREEK AREA” suggested by Peter Drekmeir (attachments C & D).

Thank you
