Saving San Franciscito Creek

Dear Menlo Park City Council Members, First, as long-time residents of the Willows we would like to thank you for listening to the concerns that we and many of our neighbors have expressed regarding the Joint Powers Authority's provisional proposals for improving flood protection in our neighborhood.  Many of the steps being proposed are sensible.  However, we feel that any plan that includes the provision for construction of floodwalls in our our neighborhood is deeply flawed and should be rejected.  Floodwalls would destroy the wild creek that so many of us cherish and want to save.  We also feel that floodwalls would be both an eyesore and detrimental to the quality of life that we enjoy in this community.  There are good alternatives that would reduce the risk of flooding in the most likely future events that do not involve floodwalls. We respectfully request that you work with your partners in the Joint Powers Authority to remove all reference to floodwalls from the pending resolution before the JPA, and failing that vote against funding the plan. Sincerely yours, William and Nancy Ellsworth 1215 Woodland Avenue Menlo Park
