This morning (Saturday, May 3) I tried to get to the City Center.  The whole downtown area was in chaos with cars zipping through the parking lots trying to find a way around the blockade of Santa Cruz Ave.  This main thoroughfare was blocked off by a bunch of exotic, high performance, extremely expensive, unkind-to-the-environment, cars.  The irony was that just a block or two away the City had hung a huge banner advertizing BIKE TO WORK DAY.  Apparently this nuisance is going to occur every month.  One has to wonder why?  It certainly does not contribute to the city's economy since, for example McClarens [?] are located in Los Altos.  It is unlikely that Santa Cruz merchants are going to benefit since the road is blocked.  It is an extreme inconvenience to anyone trying to get around in downtown. If people want to look at these ridiculous cars there must be a better place for it than in the middle of a major road.
