parking tickets

Council Members:

I read the story in the Daily Post about the number of parking tickets
issued in Menlo Park vs. nearby communities. Several friends have refused
meet me for lunch in MP because they've received too many parking tickets,
even if they exceed the designated time by less than 5 minutes.

The Post mentioned people getting tickets for parking on a white line.
Depending on which white lines a car is parked on, a ticket could be
justified if the car is taking up two spaces, especially when there's a
shortage of places in the lots.

Re paid parking in the lot on Oak Grove Avenue near the Post Office:

- It's not apparent that the pay parking machine only takes credit
cards. Why not coins or cash, since the fee is likely to be just $1 or $2?

- Once I inserted my card, I had no idea how to specify how much I
wanted to charge. I could barely read the little screen because it was
around sunset and there was a glare. But even when I shaded the screen, I
couldn't figure out how to charge just $1. I think that amount was put on my
card just because there was only one hour left before parking would be free.

I don't mind paying for parking to avoid a ticket, but surely in this high
tech area you could come up with a better parking scheme.

Thanks for listening,
