VA Palo Alto follow-up to 4/15 Quarterly Elected Official Meeting

From: Friedman, Jonathan E. <"Friedman,>

Good morning - As a follow-up to requested information from our April 15
Quarterly Elected Official Meeting...

- Progress on dental wait times

Our goal is to see new dental patients within a 30-day window of their
request. While we add an average of 10 new patients each day to the
dental electronic waiting list (at times, up to 25 a day), we've made a
concentrated effort to reduce the number of patients waiting on this
list by offering:

* Special clinics for new patients

o On Tuesdays and Fridays, one provider is dedicated to new patient
exams; additionally, all other dental providers have opened 'New
Patient' grids once or twice per day to improve access

* Saturday clinics for recall patients

o On Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., dental providers see an
average of 15- 20 follow-up patients waiting for cleanings and exams

* Hiring additional dental staff

o In the processing of hiring additional dental assistants,
hygienists, lab techs., and Doctors of Dental Surgery
