VA statement regarding CNN on VA Appointment Delays

From: domainremoved <VA>
Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2014 12:47:27 -0700

Good afternoon -

As you may be aware, there was a CNN story that recently aired about
alleged VA appointment delays which was focused on the VA Phoenix ("A
fatal wait: Veterans languish and die on a VA hospital's secret list
<http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/23/health/veterans-dying-health-care-delays/
> "). In light of this, we wanted to share a VA statement with you, that
can be passed along to your constituents (should the question arise).
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely, Jonathan

Jonathan E. Friedman

"The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) cares deeply for every Veteran
we are privileged to serve, and we are committed to delivering the
highest quality care. The Phoenix VA Health Care system takes these
issues very seriously and invited the independent VA Office of the
Inspector General (OIG) to complete a comprehensive review of these
allegations. VA also sent a team of clinical experts to Phoenix to
review appointment scheduling procedures at that facility and the
existence of any delays in care. If these reviews find any areas that
need to be improved, VA will address them swiftly, as our mission is to
provide the best care possible to our Veterans. VA facilities are
committed to transparency and undergo multiple external, independent
reviews every year to ensure its safety and quality."

"Veterans deserve to have full faith in their VA healthcare. We
appreciate the continued hard work and dedication of our employees and
of the community stakeholders we work with every day in our service to
Veterans."
