Pope-Chaucer Bridge

I am Steven Russell and I live on Woodland in Menlo Park.

After an acrimonious start, the best thing to do now is put the Pope-Chaucer bridge temporarily on the back burner and have everyone work full speed on choosing a final goal for the flooding problem. It?s not fair to make people select a bridge design before knowing if upstream diversion is doable, since if it isn?t, and flood walls are going to be needed later, some people would probably rather switch to the Do Nothing option.

The current plan of starting to build while continuing to study all options has outlived its usefulness. Once a specific final goal has been proposed, people can then be for or against it, compromises can be considered, etc., things which are impossible now in the nebulous atmosphere.

My preferred final goal would be to rebuild as many bridge bottlenecks as possible, right up to the point that flood walls are needed, with as much upstream diversion thru peripheral tunnels as possible.

As long as flood walls remain a later option, things will be permanently bogged down in endless litigation and nothing will actually get done.

Thanks for your time.
