Subject: Pope-Chaucer Bridge Replacement

Hi,
My wife and I recently purchased our home in the Willows, about a block from the bridge. One of the things that attracted us to the neighborhood was both the natural beauty of the creek watershed and the bridge.

The two main proposed SCVW alternatives (#1 and #2 on this chart<http://2savetheoaks.blogspot.com/2014/02/project-alternatives.html>) up for consideration are unacceptable to us - even though as property owners we would benefit from the extra protection against 100-year floods. We would much rather see #3 on the above chart or something similar pursued. Something clearly needs to be done and we would support a series of minor bridge upgrades - along with upstream diversion and other remediation (such as periodic dead brush clearing along the creek bed).

Flood walls and creek ecosystem degradation would destroy the character of the neighborhood and lower property values. More importantly, it would impact the quality of life we enjoy. We urge you to propose alternatives that better balance ecosystem protection and quality of life with public safety. Surely there's a better way.

Thanks,
Dave and Megan G
