Honorable Mayor and Council Members,

You may have to see it to believe it. The Library is currently displaying
over 150 years worth of information about the City of Menlo Park's early
beginnings in the 1850's through the present, 2014. An approx. 12' long
display located at the entrance to the Library contains Maps, Flags, Stamps,
Photos, Newspaper Clippings, Books, Proclamations and much, much more. In
addition, the Library has an additional area with various items high
lighting the country of Ireland - Menlo Park's roots, that all began with two
Irishman, Dennis Oliver and Daniel McGlynn purchased approx. 1,700 acres of land
near Ravenswood Avenue and El Camino Real, in the early 1850's. When the
railroad was first built in the early 1860's, they named the station Menlo
Park and ever since the rest is history. On October 17, 2013, a Friendship
Agreement was signed by and between Menlo Park's Mayor Peter Ohtaki and
Galway, Ireland's Mayor Padraig Conneely. The Library display helps to high
light this bond between two world class cities. A hand in friendship was
established that may result in many mutual benefits to come, such as mutual ties
educationally, technologically, socially, culturally and perhaps in sports
and other areas. Much is planned in the days ahead. Thank you for your
interest and support in helping to bridge friendships and in some small way,
contribute to world peace.
