Tonight's City Council meeting

From: domainremoved <Noel>
Date: Tue, 28 Jan 2014 09:44:00 -0800

Dear City Council Members,

At tonight's meeting, you will hear a presentation from the MPCSD staff
about the status of plans for the O'Connor School site. The school
district has proposed routing both school buses and charter buses down Oak
Ct to access the site.

Although we supported Measure W and we support the building of the new
school, my neighbors and I are strongly opposed to the bus plan for a
number of reasons, including safety for children on their way to the
school, safety for children on their way to other schools, safety for users
of Oak Ct (resident and non-resident pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists),
and preserving the character of our street.

Our own architect has drawn up plans, showing that the site can be designed
with a bus turnaround from Elliott Dr, adequate parking, and increased
safety for school attendees and the community. At tonight's meeting, you
will hear from Oak Ct residents about our concerns and will see these

*As our elected representatives, we respectfully request that you ask the
school district the following questions at their presentation tonight.*

   - Your property is going to be completely redesigned. Your own traffic
study shows a significant reduction in traffic on Elliott Dr with the new
school. *How would you have designed the site if there had been a house
or other obstruction along the portion of the property that borders Oak

   - * Why was auto/bus access via Oak Ct promoted from the beginning?*

   - There have been a number of alternative layouts put forth by the
district and Oak Ct residents, showing a variety of options for
parking/access layouts. The Oak Ct plans show that your parking goals can
be achieved. *Why does the district plan (Scheme 3 and 3b) show more
landscaping than your other plans, when it is more parking that you need?*

Thank you,

Noel Berghout
