Congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Your group is to be congratulated. I talked with Congresswoman Eshoo and Supervisor Gordon after their meeting with Mr. Frank and they were both very optimistic about the reception given. Good luck!

Subject: House Banking Chair to Hold Hearing on Local Govt Lehman Loss

Good Afternoon:
We have traction. Congressman Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee has agreed to hold a hearing on local government Lehman losses. Congressman Frank acknowledged that we were the only "victims" of the financial industry failure.

HOUSE BANKING CHAIR AGREES TO HEARINGS ON RESTORING PUBLIC MONEY LOST IN BANK BAILOUT
<http://cbs5.com/localwire/22.0.html?type=bcn&item=BAILOUT-HEARING-baglm
> - CBS 5
During our visit to Washington D.C. earlier this week, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo had arranged a meeting with Congressman Barney Frank for the San Mateo County delegation. San Mateo County Board members Rich Gordon and Rose Jacobs Gibson were joined by both of our Congresswomen Anna Eshoo and Jackie Speier at the meeting.

During the meeting, Congressman Frank was reminded that together with Congresswoman Eshoo, they had successfully amended the original TARP legislation, to enable Treasury to purchase troubled assets held by local governments. Since Treasury had not responded affirmatively to our request for aid, Congressman Frank agreed to conduct a hearing on the local government losses in an effort to engage Treasury in a solution. The hearing will be scheduled for sometime after the spring congressional break, which is the first two weeks in April.

Please send a " thank you letter" to Congressman Barney Frank, Chairman Committee on Financial Services, 2252 Rayburn Building, Washington, D.C. 20515, underscoring the need to find a solution. Additionally, letters to the California members of the committee are urgently needed. Please send your letter requesting your member support of HR 467 (Speier), support for the Committee hearing and need for Treasury to work with us to find a solution.

California members of the House banking committee:

Rep. Maxine Waters, CA
Rep. Brad Sherman, CA
Rep. Joe Baca, CA
Rep. Jackie Speier, CA
Rep. Edward R. Royce, CA
Rep. Gary G. Miller, CA
Rep. John Campbell, CA
Rep. Kevin McCarthy, CA

Please copy all of your letters to the Obama Administration contact: Mr. Michael Blake, Deputy Associate Director, White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Room 149 Eisenhower Executive Office Building, 1650 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20500.

Our next conference call will be on Wednesday, March 18 conference call. Again, thank you for all of your great work and support. Cheers!
