Train Crossing Close Call

Good afternoon,

Today I was at the train crossing on Ravenswood Avenue near El Camino Real around 11:00 a.m. I stopped and looked both ways and started to cross the tracks. No red lights were flashing.

When I looked to the left, there was a train stopped at the station. The bars started to come down and the lights flashed when I was under one bar and had to race across to make it before the bars came down on the other side. I have a BMW 530 wagon that is pretty long.

I consider myself lucky that I did not get caught under those bars, or worse yet, get stuck on the tracks! What is the procedure for red lights flashing prior to the bar being lowered?

That was a very scary experience!

  Regards,
