ECR opportunity

Honorable Council Members,

You have heard from many voices how the vacant lots on ECR amount to a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a downtown for our time. The last two Sundays, there have been excellent articles in the SF Chronicle about the belated shift away from automobile based life (and it's tie to imported oil) - our world is changing.

In upcoming decisions - in the specific with Derry and in the longer view our Visioning Plan - our city can make the most of this golden opportunity for transit oriented development and begin to move away from 1950's car-based town planning. Or we can water down the effort, as some voices have pressed so hard the last two years.

I wish you the courage to grab the ring.
