Dear City Council Members,
The ordinances as posted on the City's website indicate that construction in residential areas is allowed Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm. Yet, contractors working in west Menlo Park neighborhoods usually start showing up in the neighborhood at 7am and sometimes stay until 7pm or later, six days a week. I suspect the same happens in other Menlo Park neighborhoods. Why are the ordinances not enforced? Why even have ordinances if you don't enforce them? When neighbors call, the police do send a patrol out, but the construction routine never changes.
Construction in Menlo Park is likely to be ongoing over the next twenty to thirty years as homes are sold and replaced with new ones. Those of us living near construction projects, especially those who work at home, put up with a tremendous amount of noise, dust, and traffic during the allowed weekday hours, so it's very important to us to have the evenings and weekends free from any construction related activity. We would have that if you simply enforced the ordinances already on the books.
