VIRTUAL MACHINE COMPANIES such as VMware and EMC2 are among the hottest new companies in silicon valley. I did a small stint at vmware before they went public. It is a very ordinary and comfortable place to work. It is not a real player in the industry. All of their computing equipment and software from specialized companies like IBM and microsoft. The stunning objective is to create a "simulation" of a new product such as a new computer, new software, a new operating system, a new software application or even a new processor. This specialized service bureau to the silicon valley high tech sector became a massive IPO in 2007 and also introduced a level of product for the desktop and workstation. Their business end user product allows high tech people to simulate new kinds of products on their current system configuration. I'm impressed already - - yet it's not for everybody, unlike the almost comperable stock valuation for let's say a true mass market company like microsoft. The mercury news top 150 gives a good list of where vmware has listed itself and the kinds of mass market companies it should be emulating - - http://www.mercurynews.com/sv150stocks .
Appologies for mistakes in the latest version v 20.0 - - told somebody I was emailing the latest draft version and it ended up a few minuites short of having all typos eliminated. The holiday weekend requires that this version "the virtual machine edition" be emailed so that all of the "valleylist" people can go and have fun this weekend. Happy holidays again - -
Don't Buy the Hype says the motley fool. It's an unproven company. My theory is that the application is very interesting and represents a technology breakthrough. The market itself - - as in the number of real potential clients - - is too small to justify the hype and the very large investment. Natural result is a lot of hype until the fatigue sets in and people experience the bottom dropping out of the business.
VMWare IPO - News - MSNBC.com went public in 2007 at a large volume and share price of $29. EMC2 remains a public company and is developing new products every week.
MAYOR OF THE WEEK - - I thought these very hot "virtual machine" companies were based in Santa Clara however which is Patricia M. Mahan 's high tech up and comming destination for silicon valley. There's a lot available in Santa Clara however it's in need of a few "high tech anchor stores" for their global silicon valley shopping mall. There's plenty of room to be the first "yahoo! for the city of santa clara.
Work at VMware was almost "normal." The free food in the employee lounge was a big hit. The construction crew was moving furniture around and installing new carpet - - a very difficult thing to turn around. Like most people I found the concept itself to be very compelling - - most likely not a lorge market for "virtual" applications. Other than that the sprawling palo alto campus is difficult to navigate and a lot of people work in normal cubicles just like most people. Their hallways displayed the first photos I've seen of the new de Young Museum with it's african safari tiled exterior. I was supposed to learn all the facts about new silicon valley companies. My guess is that the IPO was a lot of hype and investors are likely to get a higher return with traditional silicon valley companies that have really created their own version of how to succeed in the 21st century.
Client base for for VMware is likely to be too small to sustain the current capitalization at $19b. Hype in silicon valley is a way of life and the newly discovered "virtual machine" segment is impressive and the new high tech application is impressive as well. Although the the similary kind of "virtual test environment" is available through leading software companies like oracle and microsoft and sun microsystems and hitachi.
Santa Clara needs it over with - - the odd thought that someday it'll be leagle as in "justice league of their own" leagle - - to follow people around and hunt them down and try to have them eliminated if they don't start to give something up like some money to "the gang" . Believe it or not it is the "hangers on" from the Newt Gingrich era of republican politics - - and rumour has it that Newt just moved to santa clara. The "caravan of love" or whatever they call it - - most likely a hedge fund insider trader gravy train following Newt around "e.politics: online advocacy tools & tactics " Newt Gingrich Moves to ..." - - has a lot of people stuck in the 20th centurey who crave an end to the endless birthday bash on bad booze. Newt can be reached at 000-000-0000.
The last thing they needed at this particular confab was a conversation about a new special project to come up with a new kind of crime. Always leave before the party's over. The mayor told me to get new people to pick me up and tell me what to do.
CONCLUSTION - - vmware was on almost every conference agenda this year. The conferences this summer look very good - - finally san jose and the convention center people want to develop convention schedules that are designed to attract people as opposed to repulse people. Join " Valleylist Network NING" and find out where to find the real Greg McKenna and other "valleylist" people this summer. No meetings? No problem. Ruined almost everything everywere I went this year was a great work out for a few notable anti-people - - Roy Huff, Lenny Jones, Leon Kreiger, and Regina Davis.
