Dear Council Members,
A heritage tree was removed on Hermosa Way near Santa Cruz Avenue this week. Once again either not posted for removal or was posted in a location that could not easily be seen by pedestrians. It amazes me how easy it is to remove heritage trees in Menlo Park. I have been at several open houses in West Menlo Park where the real estate agents talk to prospective buyers about how relatively easy it is to remove unwanted trees for development. Has the city ever denied a request for tree removal? It is sad and disgusting how easy it is to remove huge healthy trees in this city.
Given our understanding of global warming and the desire to keep our neighborhoods full of beautiful trees you would thing the City of Menlo Park would enforce the Heritage Tree Ordinance. Buying carbon credits is fine, but I think that not allowing the removal of huge trees and banning gas leaf blowers in favor of electric ones would have much greater and immediate impact on the environment and would be alot less expensive.
