Honorable Mayor and Council Members:

In the beginning of the year, the Council meets for an all day discussion of GOALS AND PRIORITIES.

I'd like to suggest that you consider making improvements to MARSH ROAD, in partnership with others, for the benefit of those that use this route on a regular basis.

This is a unique street whose daily care and maintenance is divided up to multiple GOVERNMENT JURISDICTIONS - in fact, over 20 of them! Leading the group are the cities of 1) ATHERTON (from Middlefield Road to Bay Road) 2) MENLO PARK (from Bay Road to Bayfront Expressway) 3) with parts under the control of the COUNTY OF SAN MATEO and 4) the STATE OF CALIFORNIA.

ESSENTIAL PUBLIC SAFETY services, such as 1) the Police Department, 2) Fire District and 3) Ambulance Service are dramatically limited by the ATHERTON CHANNEL, which prevents a third, or perhaps fourth, lane from being made available. The cost of this is too great for Atherton alone to bear the burdon of the engineering and construction cost. This is more likely to happen if the affected governmental agencies can come together, pool their resources, and maKe this a reality.

Perhaps a JOINT POWERS BOARD (JPB) is needed, or other entity.

Projects like the GATEWAY, by the Bohannon Organization, along with the huge expansion of the FACEBOOK CAMPUS should be part of the solution. I submit, ignoring this opportunity may cost more in the long run, than finding the resources to do it sooner, rather than later.

THANK YOU for your consideration. At minimum, the topic deserves a CONVERSATION. I trust you will find the time to do it.
