Hello,
I'm writing today to express my support to the council's interest in an ordinance making AB 1482's rent protection retroactive to March 2019 (as reported in the Almanac:
https://www.almanacnews.com/news/2019/11/08/menlo-park-council-to-consider-enacting-state-renter-protection-law-early)
My family has lived in our current apartment on Fremont Street for the last 8 years. As apparently many other people have experienced, we were recently notified that our rent would be increasing by 20% on January 1, 2020, from $2500 to $3000 a month. We love our neighborhood and will do everything we can to absorb these new costs to avoid moving, but the proposed ordinance would be greatly appreciated. We understand that rent will likely continue to increase over time, but gradual changes would be easier to work with in comparison to such an acute change in our monthly expenses.
Please pass the ordinance to help protect renters as AB 1482 intended.
Regards,
