RE: Lights for Burgess Skatepark

Dear Linnea,

Thank you for your email to the City Council regarding lights for the Burgess Park Skate Park and your request for lights. Your comments were noted at the City Council meeting on October 15, 2019 and will be included in plan file. We did receive similar comments during the Master Plan process. In addition, the Parks and Recreation Facilities Master Plan was accepted by the City Council at the meeting, and in the recommendations under Burgess Park it lists “Consider additional lighting and potential for a music system at the skate park.” However, please note these are only recommendations and would require additional outreach, review and approval by the Council.

We appreciate your comments and thank you for sharing them with City Council.

Best Regards,

Derek Schweigart

My name is Linnea Lindblom, and I am a senior at Menlo-Atherton High School. I am an avid skateboarder, and enjoy going to the Burgess skatepark after school with friends. Like many others, it has become increasingly difficult for me to find time to skate because of the early sunset and a demanding school schedule. Skateboarding is a great way for kids to get exercise and make friends, so lights would benefit the hundreds of riders in the community. If you are unsure of the demand and benefit for the community, I can arrange a petition to get a certain number of signatures.

Thanks for your consideration, hopefully we can address the problem!
