Dear Council Members,

Have you noticed the large number of vacancies along Santa Cruz Avenue in the downtown area? Several of
these have existed for a number of months now. Is it possible that the lack of available parking is at least partially responsible for these empty storefronts?

Retailers need customers to enable them to pay their rents. And customers need to be able to park at least reasonably close to their desired location. We need more, not less, parking. We need a parking garage downtown. Perhaps even two.
While adding bike lanes, etc. may accommodate some people, the large majority of people who frequent our downtown establishments do so by automobile.

Please start working to address this worsening problem.

Bruce Ochieano

PS: my wife and I frequently walk downtown during the day. We have the time and still have the physical ability to do so. However, many people do not have this amount of time, some lack the physical ability, and many do not have enough time to do so. Many live farther away (eg. Sharon Heights).
