Pool Hours

I am writing to voice my concern that the existing contract with the
company that manages the Burgess pool does not keep enough open hours to
meet community needs. On weekends, the pool closes at 4:00 pm, even in the
summertime. Of course with these very limited hours, the pool is more
crowded than it would be with longer hours.

I don't know when this contract comes up for renewal but I hope the City
can do a better job of ensuring that the community has access to this
shared infrastructure in the next contract period. If it will continue to
be privately managed, the contract should specify longer hours of
operation, especially on weekends.

Today, Labor Day, the pool was open until 5pm, one hour later than regular
weekend days. The lap pool was full with 2 or more people in each lane from
3:30-5:00. At one point I shared a lane with four other people after 4:00
pm. Clearly there is demand for late afternoon weekend swimming.

Please keep this in mind when negotiating the next pool management contract.

Best Wishes,
Julie Remold
