Vote yes on reach codes

Dear City Council members of Menlo Park
As a resident of Menlo Park, I urge you to vote yes on the building codes
you'll be considering tonight.

We must do everything we can do combat climate change. As swaths of the
Amazon burn, less than a year after the destruction of California's city of
Paradise and other areas, we are reminded about how serious this crisis is.

If a city as wealthy as Menlo Park does not step up, then it's hard to have
much hope for civilization as a whole.

The building codes you're consider will be substantial. Emissions from
appliances in buildings, including natural gas for furnaces and water
heating and cooking, are at least 12% of California emissions, and probably
a much larger percentage of Menlo Park's. Also, buildings tend to be
difficult to decarbonize, because infrastructure stays locked in for long
periods of time.

Please do what is right and follow through with this new set of regulations.

Sincerely,
Nicolas Sawaya
Menlo Park Resident and Voter
