Support for carbon-free building codes

Dear City Council,

I write in strong support of adopting robust green building standards (“reach codes”) that will make all-electric, zero carbon homes and buildings the mainstream choice for new construction. I will be proud of Menlo Park and we will set an example for the region if we pass this landmark policy.

Reach Codes makes our homes and buildings safer, healthier, and more affordable, help us meet our climate action plan goals, and will be a high profile step forward to address the climate crisis. In addition to the impact of new construction, all electric reach codes will send a strong market signal that will spur development of more carbon free, electric solutions for existing homes.

I hope you will support the Reach Codes as an important climate action to phase out fossil fuel use in our homes and buildings. Let’s work together towards a fossil free and climate-stable future.

I’m inspired, and coincidentally, a week from today, I’ll be getting my gas heater and gas water heater replaced with electric systems.
