Florence Ln. and Reach Codes

Honorable City Council,
I am a member of the housing commission, but I write in my capacity as a Menlo Park resident in support of the proposal to create eight condominiums by building two new units and converting six existing housing units at 975 Florence Lane. I regret the loss of six rental units converted to condos, but I am pleased by the additional two units, one of which will be deed restricted for moderate-income buyers. We must seize and celebrate every small step towards correcting the jobs/housing and affordability gap.
I also write in support of requiring new buildings to be electrically heated and requiring solar production on new nonresidential buildings. I encourage you to approve application for a $10,000 grant from Peninsula Clean Energy to explore these and other "reach codes" to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. When I spoke earlier this year in support of adopting the reach codes, I said that I was making a personal commitment to transition my home to all electric. I stand by that commitment and have started my research. Please make this much-more leveraged city commitment for all of us, and especially for our kids.
