July 4 fireworks

How is Menlo Park going to respond to the sudden increase in neighborhood fireworks? Last night’s event was beyond belief. For the first time in 40 years I was scared to be in my own home during the hours after dark.

This community needs to be educated about the hazards of fireworks and that they are indeed illegal. There really needs to be an educational campaign. Citizens need to understand fireworks are illegal and there will be enforcement and consequences for those who do set fireworks off.

And there needs to be a greater police presence and canvassing of neighborhoods particularly those along the vicinity of the bay.

The community of residents who do not like, want or set off fireworks needs the presence and support of our police department to calm down this situation.
