Non-Residential Building Moratorium

Mayor Mueller and Members of the City Council:

I encourage you to give serious consideration to the proposal advanced by Council members Taylor and Nash that would place a citywide moratorium on non-residential new development.  These council members clearly understand the relationship between the cost of housing and the demand for housing created by large employers such a Facebook.  In addition to the impact large employers have on the cost of housing there are many other quality of life issues that are also affected like traffic.

A simple approach would be to require developers of non-residential projects, that add jobs, to add a commensurate amount of housing.  This would not entirely resolve the problem but it would be a great first step in doing so.

I am encouraged to see this suggestion and hope it gains traction in surrounding communities.

Thank You,

Brian Ponty
San Mateo County Resident
