Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
Three years ago on June 3, 2016, former Mayor Richard Cline signed a SISTER CITY AGREEMENT with Galway, Ireland.  Former Galway Mayor Frank Fahy signed on their behalf.
THE AGREEMENT has withstood the test of time.  In year 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 a continued link between these two world class cities has continued.
Galway just had an ELECTION HELD MAY May 24, 2019, with former Mayor Frank Fahy re-elected for another term of office. Several of his colleaques that have traveled to Menlo Park in recent years were also elected, such as Donal Lyons (currently a Deputy Mayor).  The current Mayor, Niall McNelis was also re-elected to office.
Over the years, several Menlo Park Mayors have traveled to Galway, Ireland, such as Kirsten Keith, Catherine Carlton, Peter Ohtaki, Peggy Gunn and Richard Cline.  Several Menlo Park residents have also traveled to Galway and have been treated in a royal manner by friendly local citizens. Next year will be an excellent time to travel there, as Galway was choosen the year 2020 EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE.
Allow me to commend the City of Menlo Park for choosing Galway, Ireland as a Sister City.  For many reason, the two cities for nearly 150 years have been connected, including the construction of the original MENLO GATES on El Camino Real and now more recently, a replica constructed near the Library, at the corner of Ravenswood Avenue and Alma Street.
