Please do not invest in polluting police cars

To the City Council,

As a resident of Menlo Park for 18 years, I am concerned that the City is
planning on spending $500,000 on hybrid police vehicles that will only get
17-24 mph.

I have heard that the Fremont is using Teslas for their police force.
While Teslas seem extravagant for a police department, apparently, the cost
is less than the proposed vehicles the city if using. I understand their
test period Fremont using Telslas for police cars runs through 2020.

I urge you to postpone the purchase of the gas vehicles. Consider buying
plug-in hybrids or total electric vehicles, that meet the police
department's performance needs AND reduce carbon emissions. Do a cost
benefit analysis, weighing pros/cons of electric or plug in vehicles that
get more MPG than the proposed cars, or that do not emit carbon...

Let Menlo Park be a leader and set the example for other cities on the
Peninsula (and the US)!

Thank you for your consideration.
