Hello Betsy,
We met briefly at Angela Evans' home before the election. Congratulations
on your win!

I live in Allied Arts (same as you do) and have to deal with a daily
nuisance driving north (in the mornings) an south (in the evenings) on El
Camino Real. The traffic lights are a mess. The traffic is stopped a
practically every single junction between Middle Ave and Encinal Ave in
both directions on El Camino.

I brought this to the attention of the previous City Council and they
agreed with me but didn't do anything about it. This has a significant
environmental impact (all the idling cars around downtown) and causes
unnecessary delays during peak hours. Ultimately, it makes living in Menlo
Park unpleasant and frustrating.

I'd like to request that the lights be timed in such a way that anyone
traveling close to the speed limit makes it through all the lights without
having to stop (between Middle Ave and Encinal Ave).

The previous city council said that this is controlled by Caltrans, which
may well be the case, but I can't win this battle with Caltrans. If a city
councilor writes to them, it would carry much more weight.

Hoping you can help.
