Red light Cameras

Dear Council members,

Please end the plague of these infernal red light cameras in our city. They actually cause more accidents than they prevent, because everyone is so terrified of getting one of their unfair $500 tickets that people slam on their brakes or zoom through an intersection just to avoid being photographed by the camera, rather than to drive safely.

Everyone knows by now that this is a scam to make money for the red light camera companies, and that the city profits from these outrageous tickets--which are just a snapshot and cannot take into consideration the actual conditions in the moment, as a police officer can.

Please do not simply end the contract with the crooked Redflex company and hire another red light camera company--these cameras are pose a surveillance issue as well, and are roundly hated by our residents for several good reasons.

I urge you to do the right thing and get rid of these cameras once and for all.

Thank you,

Cherie Zaslawsky
