Willow Road Safety

Dear City Council Members -
With all the discussion about "congestion relief" I fear we may lose sight of the importance of restoring resident, pedestrian, and bicycle safety to the very streets to which traffic may be directed in the pursuit of these "congestion relief" efforts. In dutifully executing your leadership, we are looking for your support for ensuring safety for all residents of Menlo Park including the residents of the Willow Road Neighborhood.

* There are no crosswalks on the long stretch of Willow between Middlefield and Gilbert - pedestrians must "make a run for it" between cars

* There has been no discernable effort to enforce the 25mph speed limit on Willow

* There are no speed control measures on this stretch of Willow Road - "your speed is . ." signs; gentle speed humps

Fast throughput of traffic through our neighborhood is the antithesis of the safety needs of the Willow Road Neighborhood.

We appreciate your thoughtful consideration of the safety of our neighborhood as you consider any congestion relief measures.

Thank you!
Mark McBirney
