Support for street safety in Menlo Park

Dear City Council,

Thank you for your attention to transportation issues in Menlo Park and
especially working on the Transportation Management Plan to create new
solutions for people to get around town. SVBC supports the existing goals
of safety, mobility choice, and sustainability.

Projects that adhere to those goals will provide new alternatives to
driving, like more protected bike lanes and trails, wider sidewalks, and
local transit, which will help with other problems like traffic congestion.
We unfortunately cannot build our way out of the traffic problem by adding
car lanes. With the region's growing population and employment, we need to
find alternatives for people to make short and long trips.

We support the focus of Menlo Park on safe walking and biking options for
kids and seniors to travel safety to libraries, schools, and other key
destinations. When it feels safe for people to walk and bike, then more
will choose to do so. When there are fast and convenient transit options,
that it will allow people to step out of their cars.

Thank you for your consideration,
